There are number of different Walking Groups and this is an attempt to clarify what each Group does and provides a link to the relevant Group page. Please note that many Groups have WhatsApp pages where they organize their walks. The official Groups' information is held within Beacon - only available to Members
Some of these Groups do not operate throughout the Winter.
Wobbly Walkers: A very social Group for people wanting to get out for gentle, mainly flat walks, followed by a cup of tea . Never more than 2 miles and often a lot less. They meet on the first and third Wednesdays of every month at a variety of locations.
Strollers: A more adventurous Group with an Easy section with walks up to 3 miles and a Medium section with walks between 3 and 5 miles with possibly some steeper sections.
Monday Movers: A brisk walk of 4-5 miles every Monday
Strollers with Stamina: A more ambitious Group with steeper ascents and descents covering 5 to 7 miles
Explorers: Moderate walks of about 7 miles. The route is generally planned by the walk leader but participants are encouraged to participate in route finding. This may lead to deviations from the original plan.
Dartmoor Trails: This was initially set up to walk the entire 108 mile Dartmoor Way in 6 mile(ish) sections. This has since evolved into covering other Dartmoor trails and re-walking parts of the Way. Both sections have one walk a month and only operate from March to October
Nordic Walking: This is a specific Group using the long Nordic style walking poles. Some training in the use of the poles is also provided at the beginning of the season. Walks February to October once a month on Thursdays.
