The SPIRIT OF THE SHANTY CREW: We get together mainly to have fun - skill levels being largely unimportant as we are not aiming at musical perfection. We keep any comments positive and constructive. We are not particularly interested in performing in front of audiences but may do so by consensus. There are often a large amount of harmony lines / grunts / shouts which may fit well into most shanties, and members can feel free to try them out if it occurs to them at any stage. We can all make constructive suggestions about the songs but as a song acquires its own leader, that leader has final say on any changes. No one has to take part in performances unless they wish to do so, but if they would like to be involved it will be necessary for them to come to rehearsals.
